How Can severe Vomiting Be Treated?

My husband has vomited after drinking fluids without any signs of nausea or illness beforehand. Basically, he drinks water, has feelings of pressure/fullness for a brief period and then vomits. After vomiting he has a feeling of relief. He has no feeling of abdominal tenderness. He has a history of chronic gastritis, ibs and copd.
